CHÂTEAU DE AZAY-LE-FERRON
The Chateau of Azay-Le-Ferron dates from the 15th century but, in common with many such building, has been expanded with additional wings through to the 18th century. The tower is the oldest part dating from the late 15th century followed by the main building in the mid 17th century. Two additional pavilions were constructed in subsequent centuries.
The Chateau lies in an extensive area of parkland and 45 acres of formal gardens which date back to the 17th century. Both the gardens and parkland are well stocked with exotic trees and plants, and are well worth exploring. Inside the chateau, 15 rooms are open to the public as part of a guided tour.
